Early to Church... A First Time for Everything

Monday, January 05, 2009 Posted In , , , , , , , Edit This 3 Comments »
Yesterday was the first Sunday of the New Year... and I was sooo excited, not because it was the first Sabbath of 2009, not because it was a lovely sunny day, not because I didn't have to drop kick the kids into the car.... it was because we now start church at 12.30pm! By jove, the church is TRUE!

(I know some people prefer early start church, but I am allergic to waking up early. I get hives and it's just horrible. People see me and scream, "What is that THING?" and it all turns into a bad taste B movie.)

But, we had a grand start... all the children were squeaky clean and in their uncreased, unstained, un cat-furred glory, ready to go EARLY! (I'm sure they won't make a habit of it.)

Even the small disaster of running out of nail polish remover with three red nails left didn't faze me. But I prepared an answer for those who might notice and be bold enough to ask me what in the blazes was I thinking, going to church like that?
"Scientists have discovered that glancing at three red, chipped and hideous fingernails stimulates a subconscious response to eat less." (Or, put you off your food completely.)

Backlash In Brief

I've had so many requests (okay - just one) for information about the Prop 8 backlash. We know about the grafitti, the vandalism, the angry mobs and the lack of TOLERANCE... an attitude much promoted by, yet never to be found in a gay activist.

The Bad News:
Currently doing the internet rounds is the "Blacklist" of LDS contributors to the Yes on Prop 8 campaign. These people are being targeted with vicious, highly personalized attacks. People are losing their livelihoods, LDS owned stores are being boycotted and defaced and even small-time donators are being confronted. White powder has been mailed to LDS Temples. Disappointing to say the least is the lack of forceful denouncement of this abhorrent behaviour from anybody in a position of influence.

The California Supreme Court has agreed to hear three petitions challenging the legality of Prop 8. The gays say that instead of an "amendment" to the State Constitution, Prop 8 is a "change" to the Constitution which they argue is not legal. What happened to the separation of Church and State?

The Good News:
Prop 8 passed. No gay marriages can currently be performed. We are right and they are wrong. Maintaining the status quo will be a blessing to the ungrateful gays as well as the rest of us. "Forgive them Lord for they know not what they do."

Or maybe they do.

Dear Mr President...

President Obama Sir,

Since you are new to the job of Boss of America, I am giving you some pointers that will help you to win everlasting appreciation from your constituents. Here is the list. You may want to start moving out on it now. You should:

- Cancel daylight saving. I can't get the hang of it. I keep turning up to church one hour early or one hour late. Cows don't like it either.
- Outlaw broad beans. I never liked those.
- Ban fake grass. What the heck?
- Make profanity illegal and censor all movies to PG.
- Rename celebrity babies ... Pilot Inspektor, Fifi Trixibelle, Sage Moonblood and Moxie Crimefighter. Name them Bob, Doris, Edna and Harold. They will thank you for it.
- Remove Billy Mays infomercials from tv. None of that stuff works.
- Make manufacturers produce instruction manuals that aren't translated from Chinese into English by a Chinese.
- Ban ugly art.

(Jackson Pollock's No.5, $140 million)

- Close all fast-food restaurants but not their playgrounds.
- Re-introduce Prohibition. (This one will really win people over.)
- Arrest anyone who says, "I heart" or "It's hot".
- Promote Ruth Youth International Mormon Appreciation Day: 5 November.
- Get the gays off the LDS church's back.
- Make the White House self-sufficient by putting a veggie garden in the front and a pig farm out the back.

You will find that once you have initiated these changes, your popularity will soar and many McCain voters will begin to worship you.
My second installment will arrive in next month's mail. Don't thank me. I'm just doing my bit for America.

Yours Sincerely,
Moi.

GO VIRAL with "YES on Prop 8!"

In a human chain 450 strong that stretched from the 79 exit almost to Pechanga Parkway, we stood waving "Yes on Prop 8" signs. We were making a stand in support of Traditional Marriage! It was a truly amazing experience! People driving past honked and waved in support. The children danced and shouted, "Vote Yes!" as the cars drove by.
Motorists called out for more information and we threw 'Yes' stickers through their open windows as they stopped at a red light.
Neighbours were climbing over their wall to join us with their homemade "Yes on 8" signs!

Members from each ward gathered at arterial routes close to their own church building. There must have been thousands of us out yesterday!

Click here to view the news article about it.

PLEASE READ THIS no matter what state you live in. Failure to pass Proposition 8 will hurt children. If gay marriage remains legal, public schools will put it on equal footing with traditional marriage. Children will likely receive “age appropriate” information about sexual relations within heterosexual and homosexual marriages. Failure to pass Proposition 8 will hurt ALL churches. The court’s decision will inevitably lead to conflicts with religious liberty and free speech rights. Society will become more and more hostile to traditional beliefs about marriage and family. Over time, greater acceptance of non-traditional marriage will be demanded of all people. This could impact the ability of any religion to teach and practice its beliefs. Including adoption agencies. These things ARE happening where gay marriage is legal.

Did You Miss It Too?

The announcement of the building of the Rome temple caused quite a stir. The ooohs and ahhhs rippled through the LDS membership, yet nobody blinked when the Kansas City temple was announced. Bear with me a wee bit while I point out the significance of what you may have missed. It went right over my head but my husband got it.
(With the help of the 1st Counselor in the Stake Presidency who referred us to
D & C 57.)
First, note that it is the Kansas City, Missouri temple...
Second, note the proximity of the temple site to Independence, Missouri... (click on the map to enlarge it)

Third, let me quote directly from D & C 57: "Wherefore, this is the land of promise, and the place for the city of Zion." "And thus saith the Lord your God, if you will receive wisdom here is wisdom. Behold, the place which is now called Independence is the center place; and a spot for the temple is lying westward, upon a lot which is not far from the courthouse."
Finally, this statement regarding the temple lot was released by the church: "The site is situated on a hillside...a beautiful mixed development owned by the Church in northeast Kansas City, just west of the Liberty Jail Historic Site."

What do you think?
